Fitted bags of textile or soft leather with a buttoned flap at one end. It would seem that high-quality bindings were often supplied by their binders in such bags, which, in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, could be made of block-stamped leather of an Islamic pattern, as well as undecorated tanned skins.
