Tie fastenings on the edges of books usually formed by pairs of flexible lengths of skin or ribbon which can be tied in a knot or bow across the edge of a closed book. Ties found on covers with fore-edge flaps can have single or multiple ties which are attached either to both the flap and the side of the cover of the book over which the fore-edge flap is folded, or a single tie attached to the flap which wraps around the whole binding.
