Statements
consist of an odd medley of human figures, animals, foliage and scroll, but the general effect is much more pleasing than that shown in the preceding. The last figure represents a matchlock musket that formerly belonged to the celebrated Cardinal Richelieu, and this curiously shaped and remarkable weapon is best described in the expressive words used by M. L'Haridon in the catalogue of the Museum:—“The barrel cut and squared towards the base, chased and gilt, exhibits three oval medallions, representing in relief warriors in ancient armour.
