Statements
Depressed areas in the surface of a board created either by carving into a wooden board or adhering a pierced board to another piece of board. The sunk panels in the former might be used to hold gold and silver work, enamels, mounted gemstones, etc. In the latter they might be lined with an expensive sheet material such as silk velvet or imported coloured goatskin.
