The body of the cannon is in two pieces, each having a groove in its centre; the two pieces are laid together with the grooves coinciding with each other, and hooped together. The breech consists of a wooden plug, dovetailed into the two pieces forming the cannon, and is bound with one iron ring. The joint of the two pieces is shown in the engraving, and the relative size and shape of the interior of the cannon, the dovetail of the breech-block, and the position and shape of the touch-hole, are shown by the dotted lines.
