Choke boring has been more or less adopted by all gun-makers since that date, and it is for this reason that we say that Mr. Greener's reputation is based on the introduction of the invention. Mr. Greener makes no claim to be the inventor of choke boring; what he claims is that he improved an American invention to such an extent, that in 1874 and 1875 no one who had got hold of the American method had any chance of making such patterns as he could get out of his guns.
