A quarter lining may be cut to the height of or shorter than the boards, or be turned-in at head and tail. On an inboard binding, a quarter lining might perhaps be thought of as a primary cover, but as they are never found without some sort of cover over them, and are often found without turn-ins and even cut short of the full height of the boards, it is more logical to think of them as a lining to the cover, hence the term 'quarter lining'. Quarter linings of paper were frequently used on British paper-covered inboard publishers' or edition bindings of the last quarter of the eighteenth century and beginning of the nineteenth. A similar component was also used as a spine piece on some of the British versions of German three-piece cases of the second and third decades of the nineteenth century and may also be found on the earliest bindings covered in bookcloth in the 1820s.","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},"type":"statement","id":"Q1031$295370E3-64D2-434F-84EA-1CED75067BB0","rank":"normal"}],"P424":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P424","hash":"c2fbd8e4bfcac22f3b5bee2cbbc0d69be061bb93","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":71,"id":"Q71"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","qualifiers":{"P35":[{"snaktype":"value","property":"P35","hash":"9cf1c9272033e836bc5c40d8662900070e265b07","datavalue":{"value":"item","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"}],"P31":[{"snaktype":"value","property":"P31","hash":"bdb507a5b6a0ef8a432a6f39f6ddc65af9b38d51","datavalue":{"value":"http://w3id.org/lob/concept/2368","type":"string"},"datatype":"url"}],"P32":[{"snaktype":"value","property":"P32","hash":"622b554a51e11ec14879f41a82f7a694f342eb60","datavalue":{"value":"linings (components)","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"}],"P34":[{"snaktype":"value","property":"P34","hash":"72f14c48c8fb92d24847f5a819098d073876944f","datavalue":{"value":"link-moj86457-ah8bx2i8","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},{"snaktype":"value","property":"P34","hash":"22bf471f44d1308d7660f25e46005ecb0bbf2982","datavalue":{"value":"link-moj8jbie-kjrfxknm","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"}]},"qualifiers-order":["P35","P31","P32","P34"],"id":"Q1031$08514398-DA58-4B84-9A1F-9D2B62BF3678","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P424","hash":"7f366b667844934a2e48b3bd8c9e94835d8d75f0","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":694,"id":"Q694"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q1031$E9CE1094-7359-4423-9B54-4AC6DC6FCE59","rank":"normal"}],"P410":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P410","hash":"560e10a9f750f65de5e1fb03a476f00c50bf3e1a","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":181,"id":"Q181"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q1031$71C37240-C85A-4254-B1B9-F05C0524ACB6","rank":"normal"}]},"sitelinks":{}}}}
